I met Hirohisa Yokoyama, milliner, at his atelier in New York on July 27, 2010. I asked him what his romance was. He said, “I have 2 romances. One is making love. Another one is believing in myself. I am a hat designer, but I didn’t learn any fashion and hat designs at school. I believe in myself. Some of my hats can’t be worn because they are too heavy, too big, too hot….but I don’t care.” I asked him if that was why you had won the first prize in the Hat Designer of The Year 2008 at Premiere Classe in Paris. He said, “yes.” I asked where Lewis was because his hat company is called “Hirohisa & Lewis.” He said, “Lewis is dead because of overdose. No, just kidding! Lewis doesn’t work here. It’s like Johnson & Johnson. I design, make, and sell hats.”
